Lymphatic Drainage Massage

This massage pays particular attention to assisting in draining the lymphatic system which is the body’s waste disposal system.  It often becomes clogged and blocked because the lymphatic system has no connection to the heart, and during tiredness or illness it becomes sluggish and excess of waste material can remain at different sites in the body.

When the lymphatic system is blocked, it cannot carry out its pathogen-fighting activity and the fluid becomes stagnant, thus impairing the immune system. In addition to swelling and immune system impairment, stagnant lymph may cause on-site inflammation and infection. Unchecked, this stagnation may cause lymphedema, which can contribute to long-term, serious, painful conditions such as cellulitis.

Lack of sleep and improper diet can also contribute to lymphatic stagnancy. It is during sleep that our immune and lymphatic systems perform the housecleaning tasks of the body. If the body is very sleep-deprived, these processes are hampered and stagnation or swelling may occur. Poor dietary choices, such as consuming wheat products when sensitive to wheat, could result in swelling of the hands or even a large area such as the upper or lower torso – or both.

The lymphatic drainage massage helps move the lymph along the drainage corridors and stimulates the lymph nodes, cleaning out the system. By using certain essential oils to help address lymphatic stagnancy and lymphedema, you may find clients will experience less swelling in tissues, decreased body bloat, and reduced glandular or joint swelling, followed by decreased pain.

This type of massage is very beneficial for people who have completed their cancer treatment, have sluggish systems, travel a lot or may not take care of themselves by way of poor diet and exercise.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a great way to enhance the treatment of a variety of ailments as well as various other issues. Some of its uses are as follows:

  • General massage for relaxation
  • Post-surgery (e.g. Mastectomy)
  • Skin disorders, acne, eczema & psoriasis
  • Constipation
  • Sinusitis
  • Scar tissue, improvement of lymph flow to soften tissue
  • Lymphedema
  • Can offer assistance to some neurological disorders – M.S., migraines, stroke cases, headaches
  • Arthritis & rheumatism
  • Stimulation of the lymphatic system and the removal of wastes to assist with detoxing
  • Assist with fatigue from travelling, poor diet and lack of exercise by eliminating excess build-up of fluid in the tissues

  • The wonderful thing about lymphatic drainage is that once the excess waste has been drained and expelled from the body, it leaves more room for oxygenated blood, white blood cells and healing repair mechanisms to carry out their daily job.
  • You will learn how to incorporate lymphatic drainage into your treatments or as a stand-alone treatment.
  • You will learn how to further enhance this amazing treatment by adding a combination of 5 essential oils to the massage. This is vital for long lasting results and my TOP SECRET that not many therapists know.  When you combine both the techniques with my 5 special combo of essential oils, your clients will feel and see the results instantly!

Many people are misguided when it comes to the pressure of Lymphatic Drainage Massage. This massage should NEVER hurt. It’s light and rhythmical and it is not done at a fast past.

The moves you will learn are kneading, scooping drainage and pumping.

In oncology cases, full body Lymphatic Drainage Massage can be used following active chemotherapy treatment to speed detoxification, cleanse and purify the tissues and decrease some of the byproducts of the chemotherapy; although it is important to first get clearance from the client’s oncologist.
